Apartment Secured

I now have a place to live in Seattle - WooHoo!

It's affordable, which means it's probably not located in the best part of town. But hey, I can't afford to be all that picky right now. My mom asked me if I was scared. I said Nah, I've got 2 bottles of pepper spray and Kitty for protection. Yeah that's right, don't mess with the Kittypants. Her is tougher than her looks!

RAAAAWR!

BTW...these are not the same apartments I showed pictures of previously. After further research I discovered a place with slightly fewer drug dealers and crack whores living there, so I snatched it up. I wish I were joking.

Why Seattle?

I get this question at least 5 times a day it seems. "So, why are you moving to Seattle?". In my smart-alicky way I think "Why not?" or "Because it's not Minnesota!". But I usually just tell them I love the west coast. Which is also true. The Pacific Northwest is absolutely gorgeous and on par for the type of climate I like. While So Cal is probably a 10 out of 10 on my climate preference scale, I'd say Seattle is a hearty 8. Compare that with Minnesota which is hovering around 2 right now. 1 is reserved for Siberia and Antarctica.

But I think I've found an easier way to answer everyone's questions. I think I'll just print out this article and hand it to them. Icebox of the nation? 'Nuff said.

Truth be told, I don't hate Minnesota. I've lived here my entire life and it is a lovely place to live in every way, except for the weather. But you know, even if the weather were tolerable, I would still want to move out of state just to get a different perspective. I'd really love to move to another country but.. baby steps.

Today's Forecast - Depression

So it's Saturday morning and I'm barely awake but I turn on my computer and my trusty WeatherBug pops up and delivers this cheery news:
It's currently 21 degrees in St. Paul with a wind chill of 17.
Okay, no biggie, it's been in the 20's all week.
Today will be windy and cloudy with a 50% chance of snow.
Well it IS winter in Minnesota, no surprise there.
Expect a high of 25 degrees and a low of -15 degrees.
SAY WHAAAAAAT?!?!! !#$%^&*
Okay, I'm awake now. Thanks WeatherBug.

Seriously, WTH is with all the temperature swings?! Can I please have my high and low temps within 10 degrees of each other?? And this is just the temperature, I'm sure the wind chill will be -30 again. Ughhh! I think I picked a really good time to move to a milder climate. I don't even care if global warming causes the glaciers to melt which causes the sea levels to rise putting the west coast under water - I choose THAT over this. I just wish April 1st would get here faster. 51 days and counting...

By the by, I took a peek at Seattle's forecast just to further torment myself. High: 49° Low: 44°. Now that is more like it! Sure it rains often in Seattle, but I think we've already established that a little excess water will not deter me. Heh.

P.S. In retrospect it seems callous of me to complain about the weather here when there have been storms all across the country and so many people lost their lives in the recent tornadoes. My heart goes out to everyone who was affected by this tragedy and I pray for them. I know I'm fortunate and blessed and I'm truly grateful for everything I have. But what can I say, it is just my nature to be complainey and self-centered (hence, the blog about ME). Hey, at least I can admit it!

Update

Things are coming along nicely. I must say I'm just amazed at how supportive my family is being in helping me with my dream of moving to Seattle. I knew they would be supportive, but they are going above and beyond their call of duty and I am really appreciative. It's a shame I couldn't do it all on my own. I try to be as independent as possible, but sometimes you just have to admit that you need help. And it's funny, when I set aside my pride and asked for it, they didn't hesitate to rally around me and that is touching. Not one single person said "no", and they had every right to. (Perhaps they are happy to get rid of me? Nah, j/k!)

If any of you are actually reading this - thank you, thank you - you're the best!

As I've said before, there is an apartment shortage in Seattle right now so I'm just hoping to take what I can get for now, sight unseen, and be pickier once I've been there a while. One place is looking promising. The manager is very nice and we've spoken a couple of times. She called me last week and said she has 3 apartments available right now but it's not likely they'll still be open April 1st. She's going to call me next week when she'll know for certain if anything will open for April 1st and then I'll probably just start the application process and put a deposit hold on it. It's just north of downtown Seattle. Here are a couple of pics of the place.

(pics deleted)

The one bedroom apartment is much smaller than my current place - it's 640 sq ft I believe. So I'm downsizing right now and getting rid of some furniture. It looks like a nice place though, huh?? Like I said, I'm really not in a position to be picky right now. I'll just get out there, find a good job and go from there! Wish me luck!

"I don care where we live as long as i don hafta wear this darn sweater anymore! Seattle is warmer than Minnesota right ?!?!"
